God is doing mighty things in our churches! Here is a report from Community Bible Church in Aurora…
Community Bible Church Aurora has had a vision to start a new congregation on the East side of Aurora to serve the new homes that have been, and are being, built with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Currently there is no local church presence in this growing locality. We have called this location The Campus - Bayview; Bayview being the street on which the congregation meets and The Campus as a place where disciples of Jesus to learn at His feet and grow to maturity as as His followers.
Planning has been going on for about 2 1/2 years with more detailed plans developed and put in place in December 2008. Very early on we decided not to invest in a building rather we elected to meet in the Cineplex Odeon Theaters located on Bayview. Cineplex Odeon has been very helpful and supportive of this initiative and have provided what we believe to be very reasonable rental rates.
Church on Wheels was selected to provide the technology, equipment and trailer to allow us portability in setting up the auditorium, children's ministry rooms and coffee / fellowship station.
In April 2009 we hired our Campus Pastor - Ian Ardill who is responsible for shepherding this congregation where we focus on Children, Youth, Missions, Home Groups and Sunday Worship. We are now two campuses, one church meeting in multiple locations, with a common Vision, Mission, Preaching / Teaching and Elders Board.
In September and October we had 2 test services where the logistics of setup and take down were tested and adjusted in readiness for a November 1st launch, where we had 150 attending the initial service. Since then we have been averaging 120, a number that exceeds our startup goal of 100.
We were pleased with this article that appeared in the local paper.
The Lord has provided wonderfully through this process as we stepped out in faith, especially in a time of great economic uncertainty where conventional wisdom would suggest we delay any investment due to the economy. We know that God is faithful and will see this work bear fruit for the growth of the Kingdom and His honour and glory.
