JOB DESCRIPTION:

Purpose of Position:

To assure that Redeemer Bible Church continues to move in step with the will of God in becoming a disciple-making church, the Lead Pastor should demonstrate authentic, servant-hearted leadership, powerful expository preaching/teaching from the Word of God, strategic discipling and coaching, visionary guidance, and modeling of Christ-like personal character.

Preaching the Word of God:

• To prepare and deliver Biblically faithful and culturally relevant messages from God’s Word with the major emphasis being on the Sunday morning services.
• The messages are to be life-related and include teaching and admonition backed by a life that demonstrates what is being preached.
• To plan and oversee a strategy to assist in the process of spiritual formation in the lives of the member and adherents of Redeemer Bible Church.
• To take adequate time each week for prayer and to study Scripture, also keeping informed on matters relating to this area of ministry through books and periodicals.
• To co-ordinate with the worship arts ministry staff and leaders in preparing worship services with continuity and meaning.

Facilitating an Environment Where Needs are Cared For:

• Educating, equipping and empowering the pastoral staff, ministry directors and key lay persons.
• Developing and encouraging the staff and leaders by offering direction, support and inspiration.
• Fostering an atmosphere of familial community, unity and common purpose.

Accountability:

• The Lead Pastor is accountable to God through prayer and leading by the Holy Spirit, looking to Jesus Christ as the Head of the Church.
• The Lead Pastor is also accountable to the Board of Directors of Redeemer, policies and constitutional bylaws. The Elders will evaluate him annually on the basis of his job description.

Providing Visionary Guidance:

• The Lead Pastor will collaborate with the pastoral staff and with other leaders in discerning and refining the Church’s vision.
• He will be the primary communicator and catalyst for implementing the vision.
• Through mentoring and preaching from the pulpit he will motivate the church to pursue the vision.

Relationships:

• The Lead Pastor will give coaching leadership to the Board of Elders, Board of Directors and staff. He will be the “leader of leaders” coaching them through visioning, equipping, mentoring and modeling.
• The Board of Elders, Board of Directors, along with the staff are his key team to work with and through. Assisting them in their ministry responsibilities and moving the church forward in its purpose and vision.
• He will give coaching leadership and pastoral care to the congregations through the pulpit ministry.
• Therefore since the primary relationship with the congregation as a whole should be through the pulpit ministry, powerful Bible centered exposition of the Scriptures is of extreme importance.
• He shall recognize that specific gifts have been given to the church for the building up of the church community to a level of maturity, which demonstrates Christ likeness.
• Counselling individuals and families within his expertise, time and abilities and referring people to other counselors for areas outside his expertise, time or abilities.
