Looking for: Visitation Pastor, Part-Time
Purpose:
- To extend pastoral care to those who cannot worship with us at Philpott each week.
- To oversee the many volunteers who help us care for those folk.
Duties:
- Serve as a staff member of PMC.
- Report to the Senior Pastor.
- Provide written ministry reports through the Senior Pastor to the Board monthly.
- Coordinate all Visitation Ministries through the equipping and mentoring of volunteers.
- Mobilize and train volunteers as needed from the congregation.
- Maintain ongoing ministries and develop new programs as the needs of the population changes and time allows.
Competencies & Education:
- Christian commitment and spiritual maturity as indicated in the Bible.
- Ability to influence others, manage personal time, train and mentor others.
- Passion for ministry to seniors, evidenced by either previous employment or extensive time as a volunteer.
Training in biblical studies is considered an asset for the position.
Part-Time Hours: Fifteen to twenty hours a week
Salary to be arranged, based on experience
Hospital Ministry
- Visit members who are in hospital and inform the pastoral staff as necessary.
- Notify Senior Pastor when he should make the next visit.
Criteria for a visit and what it entails -
- where possible phone to see if it is suitable to visit that day
- if person is in hospital call the hospital to make sure they are still there and have not been discharged. Also find out their location in the hospital.
- A transponder provides free parking at the hospital
- Take the church bulletin to the home bound or to the patient along with a church newsletter if one available.
- Take church tape of service if person can handle a tape recorder and has asked for a tape
When Visiting in homes or facilities -
- Describe what is going on at the church and future events coming up.
- Give some requests for prayer.
- Read a passage of scripture, give them a promise, ask them what they would like to have prayed for regarding their needs.
- Pray with them.
- Visit is usually around 20-30 minutes long. Some are lonely and want to talk and the visit could last 45-60 min.
Other opportunities in connection with visiting-
- Take birthday card to person on their birthday - signed by seniors at their Tuesday meeting.
- Make list of people who should receive a)lilies, b)poinsettias, c)Christmas box. The first two (a and b) given to Thelma and the latter (c) given to Dawna of seniors group who make up the boxes and fill them.
- Take a communion service in chapel at Idlewyld; third Monday every two months is the previous pattern.
- Call each volunteer worker at beginning of each month to record who they visited the previous month.
- Make up monthly Pastoral report for the Board meeting.
- Participate in funerals of homebound if asked.
- Attend their birthday celebrations if possible and when asked.
Staff Team
- Participate in the staff meetings as possible.
- Attend monthly Elder Couple & Staff Workshops, as possible.
