Looking for: Junior High Pastor/Director

The Metropolitan Bible Church, Ottawa, Ontario is looking to hire, full time, a young man who has graduated or ready to graduate from Bible College/Seminary. This entry level position would be full time focused on a Junior High (grade 6-8) group that ministers to approximately 90 students and 25 volunteers. This candidate would be working under the immediate supervision of the Youth Pastor. Effective Biblical Teaching and High energy are our top two requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

As this is an entry-level position, experience acquired through the academic process will be looked at

Education

The incumbent will have a Bible College Degree (Third year students may be considered)

Character

The incumbent should be a mature Christian, the traits being described in “Description of a Trained Ambassador” (1 Tim. 3; Titus 1), and have a particular heart for youth and families. The incumbent must be a member of the Church in good standing.

SALARY

$32,500 the position is eligible for the Clergy Residence Deduction.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to the Youth Pastor/Senior Pastor. Meets weekly with senior pastor and staff team for a time of prayer, training, review, encouragement and planning. Works with a team of lay sponsors to achieve program objectives

RESPONSIBILITIES

% of Time

1. Ministry Strategy and Planning 15 %

In concert with Youth Pastor, develop and maintain an overall strategy and plan for Junior High ministry that fits the mission (training ambassadors for Christ) and affirms the values of the Met (biblically-faithful, mission- minded, people-developing, relationally-strong and regionally involved).

a. reviews and understands the Met’s mission and values as they apply to the JH Ministry;

b. determines current JH ministry issues and trends at the Met and beyond;

c. consults academic and ministry resources to evaluate existing and new strategies for an effective youth ministry;

d. develops an overall draft strategic plan for the youth ministry at the Met which is discussed at the Board for approval in principle, vetted at the pastoral staff level , with input from other leaders, and then submitted to the Church Board for final approval.

e. Plans and implements retreats, training venues and outreach activities.

2. Teaching 25%

Teach and oversee teaching times and activities for Junior High students that help accomplish group purposes and goals.

a. reviews teaching plans to ensure a solid Biblical content and consistency with the Met’s doctrinal position;

b. oversees teaching plans to involve other capable teachers who can communicate effectively with JH;

c. develops teaching plans to address specific needs and goals of the group

d. incorporates meaningful worship teaching and participation into teaching opportunities.

3. JH Outreach & Discipleship 10%

Develop and implement appropriate outreach and discipleship ministries for JH.

a. reviews and understands the role of outreach in the Met’s JH Ministry;

b. identifies and plans activities that are clearly “outreach” in nature, with specific goals and objectives;

c. reviews and understands the nature of discipleship in the context of the Met’s mission and the “Description of a Trained Ambassador”.

d. plans and implements activities or programs that have clear discipleship objectives;

e. mentors, disciples and counsels youth and families , and enlists and equips mentors to assist Youth in the discipleship program;

f. ensures that the Senior Pastor/Youth Pastor is consulted on JH Ministry plans early in the process.

4. Leadership Recruitment & Training 25%

Recruit and oversee a ministry team of adults to assist and lead ministries with junior high.

a. reviews the Child and Youth Protection Policy of the Met to ensure full compliance in all JH ministry activities;

b. solicits advice from staff and ministry leaders for possible candidates to approach as JH sponsors;

c. proposes JH sponsor candidates to the Board for acceptance;

d. guides and leads teams of JH sponsors to support the youth ministry;

e. conducts regular training programs for all JH workers to ensure the ministries objectives are being consistently followed, and relevant policies adhered to.

5. Family Supportive Relationships 10%

Communicate with parents (by occasional meetings, letters, and newsletters) to better assist them in their responsibility of raising their junior high young people.

a. reviews the youth ministry programs to ensure they are family-supportive and not creating wedges or divisions between youth and their parents;

b. establishes and builds effective relationships with youth and their parents;

c. communicate regularly with parents via newsletters, meetings and updates;

d. employs teaching which will strengthen and encourage family relationships and dialogue

6. Personal Ministry Development 10%

Follow a ministry development plan as directed by church leadership.

a. develop a personal training and development plan to enhance ministry performance and potential;

b. follow a reading plan to be fully acquainted with available ministry resources;

c. take appropriate action to ensure your personal ministry is broadened to provide greater flexibility in ministry assignments in the future, by accepting broader ministry tasks and opportunities on occasion.

7. Related Duties 5%

a. Assist the Senior Pastor in other areas of ministry as directed

b. Participates in Regional ministry activities representing the Church

c. Attends work-related conferences, seminars, staff meetings, etc.
