Chinese Gospel Church(CGC) is an evangelical church established in 1963 as part of the Associated Gospel Churches of Canada (AGC).

In our forty-seven years of ministry we have grown to nine congregations and have planted three mature independent churches in the Greater Toronto Area. Currently CGC has three sites—downtown, Mississauga and Scarborough. Our Scarborough site’s English-speaking congregation of 70 youth and adults is currently seeking a full-time English-speaking pastor.

This English congregation works closely with the Mandarin congregation which has about 200 adults --mostly families. Their children and youth make up half of the English congregation and the rest are mature second generation families. Although the English congregation plans its ministries independently, the Sunday school department works cooperatively with the Mandarin congregation. Our location is within a large Chinese community and is within walking distance of an elementary and a high school. This location provides tremendous opportunities for ministry to children, youth and families.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the English pastors of our downtown and Mississauga sites and cooperatively with the Mandarin pastors of the Scarborough site.

Candidates should have at lease a Bachelors degree in Theology, 3-5 years ministry experience and strengths in:

Teaching & Preaching: preferably in expository style
Developing and Discipling members through Christian Education
Team Leadership: with the ability to influence others in a multi-staff and lay leadership team
Pastoral counseling

Position Scope

Banff Park Church is a Baptist in doctrine church and is a member of the Associated Gospel Church of Canada. The church is located in Banff National Park and is a popular destination with tourists and has an active local community. We are currently seeking a full time discipleship pastor who will grow, teach, lead, train, care, and preach with an emphasis on the youth and young adults under the direction of the Elders Board and Preaching Pastor.

Key Accountabilities/Activities

Grow – Personal growth in relationship with God, devoted to prayer, and ministry of God’s word (Acts 6:1-7, Psalm 119)
Teach - Biblical Discipleship that is entirely from God’s Word (Col. 1:25-29; 3:16,17)

Committed to proclaiming Christ completely from all of Scripture
Dedicated to present every Christian complete in Christ (Gal.4:19)
Convinced that a growing knowledge of the Son of God will produce Christ likeness (Ephesians 4:11-16)

Lead – A team of faithful leaders (2 Timothy 2:1,2; 3:14-4:5)

Recruit and lead spiritually mature adults to mentor youth/young adults
Recruit and guide peer to peer ministry team

Train – Believers in godliness from scripture (1 Timothy 4:1-16, Acts 20:17-32)
Care – Pastorally as an Elders, for the whole church (Hebrews 13:7-9,17, 1 Peter 5:1-5 1Thessalonians 2:7-12)
Preach – The Gospel exclusively from God’s Word according to sound doctrine (2 Timothy 4:1-5)

Position Requirements

Meet the qualifications of an Elder found in scripture (1 Tim. 3:1-7. Titus 1:5-9)
Live with an attitude of humility, being shaped by prayer (Philippians 2:1-11, Acts 6:4)
Evidence of a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
Possess a strong foundation of growing biblical knowledge
Experience in successfully leading and training a ministry team
Demonstrate organizational ability, faithfulness to complete task and keep word
In agreement of AGC doctrinal statement and all Banff Park Church documents

Special Conditions

Candidate will be accountable to Elder’s Board - For ministry responsibilities including a 12 month probationary period with ministry review
Candidate will be accountable to Preaching Pastor - for practical day to day ministry details
Banff Park Church will require a current criminal record check with the vulnerable sector information
Candidate must be affirmed by our denomination (Associated Gospel Churches of Canada -AGC) through an approval process including a “Compatability Questionaire” and “Doctrinal Interview”
AGC Policy dictates that Pastoral Ordination Candidates and all Elders must be godly male leaders
Candidate must be able to work with housing provided realizing the higher cost of living in Banff

Kidquest Camp is a summer long day camp, sponsored by Winona Gospel Church, that is focused upon reaching Kids for Christ. For six years we have been training local High School and College students to disciple children through our outreach camp at our church facility in Stoney Creek. Each week 30 - 50 children from all backgrounds come for a week of great fun as they experience the love and teaching of our Lord.

The position is part time Feb - May then full time from mid May through the end of August. Duties include hiring staff, overseeing the camp including: staff training, budget, programming, and staff discipleship.

Background:

Over the past four years, we have developed a significant heart for the inner city. That heart is being expressed today with a significant number of volunteers giving time to programs that include immigrants and refugees, street-involved youth and families living in poverty. These programs and ministries require effective leadership.

Vision:

To provide a variety of opportunities for active involvement in the Hamilton core community of immigrants, refugees and those who are marginalized.

Purpose:

To facilitate the service of Hamilton’s inner-city by the congregation at Philpott: Immigrants and refugees arriving in Canada; Hamilton’s inner-city poor.
To manage a structure for on-going Urban Ministry commitments and opportunities at Philpott.
To strengthen and further develop an Urban Ministries Long-Term plan of Action

Duties:

Serve as a staff member of PMC.
Report to the Senior Pastor.
Provide written ministry reports through the Senior Pastor to the Board monthly.
Coordinate all Urban Ministries through the equipping and mentoring of ministry leaders.
Mobilize and train volunteers as needed from the congregation.
Cooperate with local church congregations as appropriate.
Partner with local community organizations as appropriate.
Maintain ongoing ministries and develop new programs as the needs of the population changes and time allows.

Competencies & Education:

• Christian commitment and spiritual maturity as indicated in the Bible.

• University or College graduate, or appropriate informal training.

• Ability to influence others, manage personal time, train and mentor others.

• Passion for inner-city ministry, evidenced by either previous employment or extensive time as a volunteer.

Training in social work is considered an asset for the position.

Part-Time Hours: Twenty to twenty-five hours a week
