Looking for: Senior Pastor

Grace Bible Church of Dauphin, Manitoba, a member church of the Associated Gospel Churches, is seeking a full time pastor to provide a sound Bible-based preaching and teaching ministry. The successful candidate will have a proven background of modeling and teaching scriptural truths; must demonstrate the leadership qualities required to effectively challenge and equip existing leadership for the ministries of the church, and develop new leaders. He must have the abilities necessary to reach out and work with our community in new and meaningful ways in response to the Great Commission.

As Pastor, he will be expected to:

Inspire the spiritual growth of the congregation
Foster healthy spiritual working relationships between leadership and members, and facilitate biblical resolution of developing issues.
Place a strong emphasis on developing youth ministry.
Facilitate a vibrant and meaningful music ministry.
Show commitment to local, national and global missions.
In conjunction with the elders, visit the sick, shut-ins, and those requiring pastoral care.
Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills in teaching, preaching and facilitating.
Demonstrate good interpersonal skills in mentoring and discipling.

Educational requirements:

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity, Theology or equivalent from an approved University, Seminary or Christian college.
Accreditation with the Associated Gospel Churches.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The purpose of this role is to provide spiritual oversight, vision and leadership to assist in developing a healthy reproducing church. This role supports ministries to: Cantonese, English, Mandarin and Children.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide proactive and strong leadership and leadership training

2. Have a balanced dynamic preaching and teaching ministry

3. Provides pastoral care personally and through other trained care-givers

4. Provides strong organisation and administration management in church operations

Education and Competencies :

• Godly man – walking with God and growing in the knowledge of Him.

• Ordained Pastor, compatible with the Associated Gospel Churches of Canada.(agcofcanada.com)

• University degree with seminary training. M. Div. preferred.

• Minimum 10 years’ experience (preferably 15 years) in ministering in a tri-language church (English, Cantonese and Mandarin)

• Demonstrated supervisory ability in leading pastoral teams and church staff.

• Excellent interpersonal relationship skills at all levels.

• Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) in Cantonese with strong ability in English and Mandarin.

• Strong understanding of Chinese culture & the Canadian Chinese church context.

• Strong cross-cultural leadership ability to coordinate church-wide ministries.

• Proven success in negotiating and resolving conflicting priorities and views.

The candidate will also help to coordinate an effective worship, music and drama ministry at Calvary Gospel Church. Preferably, the candidate (or spouse) should be musical and be able to effectively lead congregational worship. The ability to play an instrument would be an asset.

Chinese Gospel Church(CGC) is an evangelical church established in 1963 as part of the Associated Gospel Churches of Canada (AGC).

In our forty-seven years of ministry we have grown to nine congregations and have planted three mature independent churches in the Greater Toronto Area. Currently CGC has three sites—downtown, Mississauga and Scarborough. Our Scarborough site’s English-speaking congregation of 70 youth and adults is currently seeking a full-time English-speaking pastor.

This English congregation works closely with the Mandarin congregation which has about 200 adults --mostly families. Their children and youth make up half of the English congregation and the rest are mature second generation families. Although the English congregation plans its ministries independently, the Sunday school department works cooperatively with the Mandarin congregation. Our location is within a large Chinese community and is within walking distance of an elementary and a high school. This location provides tremendous opportunities for ministry to children, youth and families.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the English pastors of our downtown and Mississauga sites and cooperatively with the Mandarin pastors of the Scarborough site.

Candidates should have at lease a Bachelors degree in Theology, 3-5 years ministry experience and strengths in:

Teaching & Preaching: preferably in expository style
Developing and Discipling members through Christian Education
Team Leadership: with the ability to influence others in a multi-staff and lay leadership team
Pastoral counseling

The primary responsibilities of the Associate Pastor in order of priority:

a) pastoral care of whole congregation;

- visit the whole congregation within 6 months
- extend pastoral visits to visitors
- provide pastoral care and counseling to those in need in the congregation

b) preaching and teaching;

- preach 50% to 75% of Sunday sermons per month and be in charge of the preaching schedule
- teach/co-teach a Sunday school class
