Lake of Bays Mission Church, Dwight, ON

Looking for a part-time pastor, 20 hours

Lake of Bays Mission Church is in the District of Muskoka, 1 km from Lake of Bays, a large lake attracting a substantial vacationing community especially during the summer for water and hiking activities and during the winter for skiing and snowmobiling activities (but to a lesser extent.) The church was established in 1987 under the ministry of Rev. Eric Sisel who remained pastor until his death in 2009. Since then we have had a number of local pastors, retired and involved in other ministries, speak on a rotation basis. During this time we have been actively seeking the Lord to find  a replacement for Rev. Sisel to lead our congregation forward into ministering to the  Lake of Bays area and surrounding communities: Baysville, Dwight, Dorset and to some extent Huntsville.

Our congregation is very small, 12 members, during the late fall, winter and early spring months with upwards to 24 people. During the summer months we would average upwards to 50. Financially we are well provided for. Our members are older and representative of the large pre-boom and boomer generations. We have been praying earnestly for the Lord to provide young people and young families. We are situated on 40 acres of land with a newer building that is wholly accessible with a medium sized auditorium (recently renovated and modernized),  a fellowship hall, kitchen and classroom/office. Since our ministry is small the pastor would need to have means other than the financial remuneration from the church board – a “tent” ministry of sorts.

Ultimately we are seeking the Lord’s choice for a permanent, part-time pastor but would be willing to entertain applications for an interim, part-time position that would exist until we are able to procure a permanent, part-time pastor.

The successful candidate should have some experience in the role of a church pastor, should be compatible with the AGC (or willing to seek accreditation) and should have a degree in Biblical / theological or pastoral studies (or its equivalent) from a recognized seminary or college.

Some of the key responsibilities and gifts of the pastor position would be:

  • a pastor leader who works with the members of the congregation, in particular the Elders and Deacons, in maintaining a strong lay-leadership ministry,
  • the preaching ministry of the Church,
  • a servant leader who both leads the congregation and is engaged in many of its  programs,
  • strong relational and communication skills, and
  • a heart to reach the community for Christ with a vision for outreach beyond the walls of the church building into a dichotomous community: disengaged youth and young families and seniors who at one time were involved in church related activities and all over a widely scattered, sparsely  populated but financially well-off area.
