Lakeview Bible Chapel, Fraser Lake, BC

January 31, 2019

Looking for: Senior Pastor

Lakeview Bible Chapel started in 1968 as a Church plant of the Vanderhoof Gospel Chapel, which was a AGC church at the time but has since become a EFC. A few families moved to Fraser Lake and others traveled to town to help. It started as a Sunday School in the town hall which has since become the Royal Canadian Legion. They started to build their own building and finally managed to complete it on budget (a small one) in 1972. The membership has had its ups and downs over the years. The town of Fraser Lake used to have a population of 1500 but has downsized for various reasons to 988 and with it so has the church.

We currently have a membership of 33, with a regular attendance of 60-70. Our seating capacity is 200 as per the fire regulations and our chair count????. We have Sunday school for all ages, Wednesday evening prayer meeting and a few smaller regular Bible Studies as well. Our Women’s ministry has also had its ups and downs but has always had a faithful core group. It is gaining momentum lately and is growing through faithful prayer and involvement. We host an annual Ladies Christmas tea for the community. Last Dec it was our 30th Christmas Tea and as usual it very well attended and enjoyed.

We strive to be a mission minded church and we currently support 6 missionaries as a church body, 2 serving locally and the rest spread all over the world. As a congregation we support these and many more as well.

As a church, we come from all walks of life in the community. We have a member on our town council, business owners, emergency service workers, farmers, miners and loggers and all have more than a drop of redneck running through their veins. Our desire is to reflect Christ to our community with gentleness, patience and hope.

THE VILLAGE OF FRASER LAKE

"(Check out http://www.fraserlake.ca/ as well as https://lovefraserlake.com/

The Town of Fraser Lake has approx. 988 residents and serves another 1800 in the surrounding area. Fraser Lake is 14 miles long (or 22.5 km) and the town of Fraser Lake is located approx. 2 miles from the west end of the Lake. We are located 160km from the city of Prince George, which has a great airline in YXS from which you can fly anywhere in the world from.

We have two public schools in town. Fraser Lake Elementary School or FLESS, is for grades 4-12 with approx. 190 enrolled and Mouse Mountain Elementary School is K-3 with approx. 130 enrolled.

We had a shutdown of our major grocery store a couple of years ago, but the town persevered and we now have 2 smaller grocery stores and one has a dollar store in it as well. Also unfortunately we have had our local drug store and sporting goods store shut down. We still have our local Medicine Center Pharmacy and there is always Amazon to shop at lol.

We have two First Nations Communities in our immediate area. Nadleh Whut’en is located at the east end of the lake and their website is http://www.nadleh.ca/  . The community of Stellat’en is at the west end of the lake and their website is http://www.stellaten.ca/  .

Centerra Gold put there Endako Mine site on maintenance and laid off over 340 employees leaving just a handful to handle the maintenance part in 2014. It was a very big hit to the town and in late 2018, to go along with that, Fraser Lake Sawmill announced that they were laying off the graveyard shift of about 60 workers. The logging industry is still happening but it has been feeling the effects of the fires as well. Since the mine closure, Fraser Lake has become a town that has a high number of residence who work camp jobs. Mt Milligan in Ft St James being the main one. It is also owned by Centerra Gold. There are a few other places that people work out of town and are in camp as well, most of them being a week in/week out. Several people work in surrounding towns and live in Fraser Lake. Also many of the employees of Fraser Lake Sawmill and other employers, live in neighboring towns as well. We had some pretty severe and close wildfires in 2018, which had a large impact on the area.

We have an active Royal Canadian Legion as well as a Senior Center that is currently moving into one of the vacant spots in the Mall from their old location. They are very active with the seniors in town. Our local village office has a year round recreation director who always has different events happening. Check out the Village of Fraser Lake on Facebook.

We have a British Columbia Emergency Services (BCEHS) station in town with 2 on call ambulances, excellent Volunteer Fire Dept which is also certified as first responders and go with the ambulance on local emergency calls when needed. We have a well-staffed RCMP station as well. We also have a local Medical Clinic that is fully staffed with part-time lab and x-rays, as well as a Nurse Practitioner, RNs and 3-4 doctors in town at any given time. It is open from 9-5 weekdays with any emergencies outside of these hours going to St Johns Hospital in Vanderhoof 58km to the east or Lakes District Hospital 70km to the west. The University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC) is located in Prince George and has an excellent Cancer Center. Their website is https://www.northernhealth.ca/locations/hospitals/university-hospital-northern-british-columbia-uhnbc

For sports and recreation we have a local hockey and curling arena, soccer, baseball tournaments, pickle ball (google haha), along with floor hockey, karate and anything else we can talk people into. We also have a well-equipped local fitness center located in the mall. For recreation we have it all. Anything you can do in a lake, on a lake or by a lake, whether it is frozen or not, you can do it here. We also have several hiking trails in the immediate area, with many, many more within a reasonable distance. There are many resorts within a short drive on nearby Francois Lake as well as Pipers Glen on Fraser Lake, RV parking down at White Swan Park and Beaumont Provincial park on the east end of Fraser Lake, many of which are on facebook and/or https://lovefraserlake.com/ which is a great resource for more of what our town has to offer.

We are seeking a Pastor who desires to help the congregation to be rooted in the word and equipped to go out in the community and minister.
