Who Loves The Church?

Posted by donna on August 6, 2014

Country_church.jpg" Just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her; that He might sanctify her having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself  the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should be holy and blameless."(NASV) Eph 5: 25b-27

The question is often asked "who loves the Church?" The answer; ‘Christ loves His Church.'  He is the head of the Church.   He has bought her with His own precious blood.  Christ has called His Church to be a radiant and perfected Bride fit for Himself.

As His chosen disciples we ought to love the Church.  Yet, there are many people today who do not love the Church. Certainly, if we keep our eyes on the faults or upon the historical well documented abuses of the established church, then we understand how people may feel.  How do we move past the negative feelings about the organized church and get back to the attitude of Christ who loved, chose, called and is perfecting His Bride the Church?

jim-houston.jpgAGC Canada West Superintendent Jim Houston has spent the last 12 years visiting our Western Churches & Pastors.  As he concludes his term, Jim wants to give an idea of what these journeys have been like, and the people he's been able to visit.  Westerners - look for your church and people!  Jim - thank you for your years of exemplary service to our family of churches, and to our Lord!

Take Time to Relax

pillow.jpgWe have just returned from a wonderful time of fellowship and worship at our biennial AGC National Conference, Connect_logo_large_4.jpg  2014. Our Conference was held at Fanshawe College in beautiful London, Ontario.  It was hosted by our London Area Pastors, led by Rev. John Thompson of Forest City Bible Church. I wish to thank all who graciously gave of their time and talents, from our planning committee to our worship team, our workshop speakers and our volunteers.  Our guest speaker was Dr. Rick Reed (Linda).   Rick blessed and encouraged us through his exposition on the life of Jeremiah.  God through His Spirit was in our midst and we give Him all the glory.

Niagara_2014_2.JPGOn June 8th, a number of AGC churches in the Niagara area gathered together at Queenston Heights Park for the "Together We Worship" church in the park.  It was a perfect way to cap off our National Conference by having these churches partner in worship and ministry!

AGC National Conference 2014

Connect_logo_small_4.jpgAll who attended the June 5 - 8, 2014 National Conference in London, ON were blessed and encouraged by the fellowship, music, speaker Rick Reed, and, of course... the food!  Please read this report from Church Relations Co-ordinator Susan Page:

This past April through May we experienced the usual pre-conference flurry of activity.  It’s always a time that challenges us and stretches us in many ways.  This year there were some unique challenges that came at us, wave after wave so to speak.

The AGC Canada East Council is pleased to announce that Rev. Dr. Laird Crump has been confirmed as our new Canada East Superintendent, beginning July 1, 2014!.  Laird received 100% affirmation from the Canada East Conference on June 6.  Please pray for Laird, his wife Joey, and their family as they make this transition.

Discipleship as a Community

Posted by donna on May 6, 2014

"All the believers (disciples) were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had." Acts 4: 32

Though many followed Jesus during his earthly life, we really only know about twelve disciples and their life with Jesus. In the book of Acts a significant change took place. The twelve were known as Apostles because Jesus appointed them as such. (Mark 3:14)  The Apostles were limited to these twelve disciples.  These men, rich in their experiences with Jesus, were the theological school upon which the Church was built.

Jesus - the Model Disciple

Posted by donna on April 10, 2014

Philippians 2: 6 - 7: "Who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bondservant, and being made in the likeness of man ... He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross"(NASV).

It is common for us to see Jesus as the Master Discipler and He certainly is. Yet, Jesus demonstrates to us what a disciple is by being a disciple Himself ... a disciple of His Father, God.   When we think of salvation through the finished work of Christ on the cross we need to see the place of Christ as a disciple in the plan of atonement.

Russ_Wilson_April_2014.jpgThe Associated Gospel Churches is pleased to announce that Rev. Russ Wilson has been approved as our next Canada West Superintendent!  The Canada West Region voted overwhelmingly in favour of appointing Russ at last weeks' Canada West Conference in Melfort, SK.

In the excitement of welcoming Russ, we also say a very fond but sad farewell to outgoing Superintendent Jim Houston, who has served so diligently over the last 12 years.  Thank you Jim for your heart to serve, and for the many practical ways you have shown your love for the Lord and His people.
