The Church: The Waiting Bride

Posted by donna on May 7, 2015

CaptureMay152.PNG"Death is the debt we all must pay." Euripides

"The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

The Apostle Paul said: "For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn: Christ, the first fruits; then, when He comes, those who belong to Him. Then the end will come, when He (Christ) hands over the Kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority and power."  (1 Corinthians 15:22-24)

Scripture likens the relationship of the Church on earth to a bride waiting for her husband.

The AGC turns 90!

Posted by donna on March 18, 2015

March 18, 2015 marks 90 years since the AGC officially began!

History 1924.jpg

Above: Sunday School Teachers Convention, Christian Workers Churches, Philpott Memorial Church (then known as "The Gospel Tabernacle), Hamilton, ON, 1924

The AGC traces its beginnings to the early 1890s when a group of independent evangelical churches became known as the Christian Workers' Church of Canada, under a charter granted to Dr. P .W . Philpott, pastor of the Gospel Tabernacle in Hamilton,ON. These churches were concerned about the growth of theological liberalism and in 1922 felt the need to unite with others who practised a simple biblical faith. In 1925, because other groups with contrasting doctrine and practice were using similar names, a new charter under the name of Associated Gospel Churches was secured from the Canadian government.

The Church: Remarkable Witness

Posted by donna on March 2, 2015

Capture.PNGIn Matthew 28: 18 Jesus said, "All authority, in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations ...."  The last words of Jesus while on earth have become our first course of action. We are to go into all nations making disciples. A disciple is a fully devoted follower of Jesus, born again by the Spirit of God and walking in His power.

The Church: Remarkable Provision

Posted by donna on February 5, 2015

CaptureFeb152.PNGActs 1: 8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you ...."

Acts 2: 1-4 "When the day of Pentecost came, they (the apostles) were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what appeared to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Sprit enabled them."

Jesus had been with His followers for 40 days and then He ascended into heaven. Ten days later, at the time of the Jewish feast of the Pentecost, God the Father sent His Holy Spirit to indwell and empower all of His followers. Jesus had told them this would happen (John 16).

The Church: Remarkable Transformation

Posted by donna on January 7, 2015

Capture.PNGIn Acts 4: verse.2:  we read, "They (the priests and Sadducees) were greatly disturbed because the Apostles were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead."

Further on in verses 19 and 20 we read, “but Peter and John replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God's sight to obey you (the Jewish leaders had commanded them to not speak in the name of Jesus) rather than God.  For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard" (NIV).
