The Church: Remarkable Moments in History

Posted by donna on November 5, 2014

Capture.PNGF. F. Bruce said that when reading the Gospels, we experience the life and work of Jesus on earth; but when reading the book of Acts, we experience the life and work of Jesus in Heaven. Many call Acts the work of the Holy Spirit in the Church. I like that.

In Acts 1: 1-3 we enter into a unique in-between period where Jesus appeared to His disciples for forty days following His resurrection (vs. 3).

In Matthew 4 we read that Jesus was in the desert being tempted by the devil for 40 days at the beginning of His ministry. Now, we read that Jesus, following His resurrection, ministered in His glorified body for 40 days. The numbers are interesting but certainly not the main issue of this account.

New AGC Church Plant - Countryside Community Church!

Posted by donna on November 4, 2014

Willis.PNGWe are excited to introduce the AGC family to Countryside Community Church in Oro-Medonte, Ontario!  On Thanksgiving Sunday, Oct 12th, their first service was held at Willis Presbyterian Church.

About a year ago, God began placing a burden on the hearts of several people to plant a church in Oro-- Medonte. Oro--Medonte is a rural township of about 22,000 people with very little in the way of an evangelical presence, and so the need was real.

Call to Prayer

Posted by donna on October 23, 2014

Ottawa shooting.jpg

I would like to call all of us to pray for our country and especially for our leaders in light of the horrific events of yesterday and indeed this week.

Twice this week we have experienced the shock of direct attacks of terrorism on our soil.  Our prayers are with the Cirillo and Vincent families who this week lost sons, husbands and fathers.  Our prayers are with the men and women of our armed forces and police who once more were called on to defend our freedoms with their lives.  The threats of terror are more real for us today than yesterday, this week more than last.  In so many ways Canada will not be the same.

That said, our faith and dependence is always in our Lord. May we be those whose lives demonstrate a heart of service and encouragement for all we meet. We must be those whose lives are marked by faith not fear.

This Sunday please take a moment to pray for our nation.

The Church At Worship

Posted by donna on September 12, 2014

worship.jpgThe reason the Church exists is to give glory, praise and worship to God. Missions then are the process by which we can reach people with the news of the gospel so that they too can give praise and worship to God. Missions are what we are engaged in as a Church worldwide.

Who Loves The Church?

Posted by donna on August 6, 2014

Country_church.jpg" Just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her; that He might sanctify her having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself  the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should be holy and blameless."(NASV) Eph 5: 25b-27

The question is often asked "who loves the Church?" The answer; ‘Christ loves His Church.'  He is the head of the Church.   He has bought her with His own precious blood.  Christ has called His Church to be a radiant and perfected Bride fit for Himself.

As His chosen disciples we ought to love the Church.  Yet, there are many people today who do not love the Church. Certainly, if we keep our eyes on the faults or upon the historical well documented abuses of the established church, then we understand how people may feel.  How do we move past the negative feelings about the organized church and get back to the attitude of Christ who loved, chose, called and is perfecting His Bride the Church?

jim-houston.jpgAGC Canada West Superintendent Jim Houston has spent the last 12 years visiting our Western Churches & Pastors.  As he concludes his term, Jim wants to give an idea of what these journeys have been like, and the people he's been able to visit.  Westerners - look for your church and people!  Jim - thank you for your years of exemplary service to our family of churches, and to our Lord!

Take Time to Relax

pillow.jpgWe have just returned from a wonderful time of fellowship and worship at our biennial AGC National Conference, Connect_logo_large_4.jpg  2014. Our Conference was held at Fanshawe College in beautiful London, Ontario.  It was hosted by our London Area Pastors, led by Rev. John Thompson of Forest City Bible Church. I wish to thank all who graciously gave of their time and talents, from our planning committee to our worship team, our workshop speakers and our volunteers.  Our guest speaker was Dr. Rick Reed (Linda).   Rick blessed and encouraged us through his exposition on the life of Jeremiah.  God through His Spirit was in our midst and we give Him all the glory.

Niagara_2014_2.JPGOn June 8th, a number of AGC churches in the Niagara area gathered together at Queenston Heights Park for the "Together We Worship" church in the park.  It was a perfect way to cap off our National Conference by having these churches partner in worship and ministry!
