Effective Disciple Making

Mentoring new believers

"Go and make disciples" Jesus (Math. 28:19)

A spiritual discipline that is waning in the modern church is that of intentional mentoring of newer or younger believers. This is especially true when one thinks about leadership development.  Far too much is left to chance or simply taken for granted.

The store shelves are filled with books and plans on discipleship. Yet, few of us are engaged in making disciples.

Though much is being done and great things are being accomplished, my question is always, at what cost?  “What can we do better?”

What is "Dynamic Spirituality"?

Posted by donna on September 5, 2013

“But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written:  “Be holy, because I am holy.”            1 Peter 1:15, 16

A high core value of the AGC is to see churches reflect dynamic spirituality.  The word dynamic comes from the Greek word "Dunomos", from which we have the word dynamite.  Do we want a spirituality that is explosive? We sure do not want a spirituality that is destructive.  Believe it or not, some churches have a destructive view of spirituality.

Alberta Floods

Posted by donna on July 22, 2013

A number of our AGC churches were affected by the recent flooding in Alberta.  Here is a report from one of our pastors...

The Black Diamond/Turner Valley Story

At 6:45 am on Thursday, June 20th/2013, our family was given 2 minutes to evacuate our home.  The flood waters were pressing up against our house and we barely were able to drive our van out of the driveway of our Black Diamond home.  Two days later we were allowed back on our street and to our home to see that we had 4 feet of water in our basement.  That was the common story among so many of us in our area of the province.

Be a Life-Long Learner

Posted by donna on July 9, 2013

The AGC has a core value of lifelong learning. Through our Church Health and Leadership Commission we aim to encourage, challenge and resource every leader to keep growing.

Origins__Redemption.jpgIn Origins and Redemption, Dr. Frank Humphrey discusses the creation-evolution issue across a wide range of scientific disciplines. Each area is well-researched and extensive references enable the reader to pursue additional research in areas of particular interest.

After all this, he applies the same analytic rigour to the historicity of the resurrection and, therefore, to our redemption that is found in Jesus Christ.

God's Faithfulness to the Rock

The_Rock_members_June_2013.jpgOn June 23rd, the Rock Community Church in Woodstock, Ontario welcomed its first sixty members to membership.  This was a monumental event in the Rock’s history, since five years ago, the Rock was a church restart with a dozen people in attendance.  We are tremendously thankful to God and for His work through the AGC’s Church Planting Commission which has faithfully supported our ministry of preaching the Gospel faithfully and making disciples of Jesus in this community in Woodstock.
