Amazing reports have been pouring in to the AGC office about the 2016 Getaway Junior High Retreat! Kids enjoyed activities, great food, fun games, but more than that, they heard about a God who loves and values them.
Speaker Rob Tyo of C4 Church in Ajax asked the kids to think about the labels that have been put on them, and then asked them to write these down and put them on the cross. He then challenged them to think about who they are in God's eyes. It was very moving to see what the kids wrote and to know that many came away knowing that they didn't have to own them anymore.
We often see young leaders coming back with a group of kids who were impacted themselves by the retreat in their younger years. One leader who was at Getaway last weekend wrote this of the experience:
"...while I'm completely exhausted, I start to reflect on this past weekend and begin to think about how He created us as people. He created all of us unique and planned everything out precisely. This weekend we talked about labels and how we started to see ourselves as different things other than who we are made to be. God made us to be His sons and daughters, and we can't let other people tell us who we are. I had the opportunity this weekend to go as a leader with a bus load of jr highs on a retreat. The same retreat that I went on as a jr high that changed my life. We run on little sleep, are surrounded by kids yelling all the time, and might struggle with needing some time to ourselves, but it's all worth it. I wouldn't have changed it for anything. One of the coolest things is watching jr highs get so excited to encounter God, and hearing the curiosity they have about God's love for us. There were so many incredible friendships and relationships formed and renewed this weekend, and I'm incredibly thankful for this opportunity I had to go."
Make sure that you plan to send your youth group to the next AGC Retreat - next up is the Strive Retreat (March in Canada East, May in Canada West)
