President's Update - Biblical Authority
As we look more closely at our AGC Core Values, I want to highlight biblical authority.
What will lead us in our life, what foundation do we build our lives upon? What drives our decisions and sets us apart from the ordinary? There is only one answer to these questions, and that is the truth that we have about the person and work of Jesus Christ. That truth is revealed in the scriptures, the Word of God.
2 Tim 3: 15-17 "from infancy you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. All Scripture is God- breathed and is useful to teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
Knowing the facts alone about Christ doesn't save us. Only Christ Himself can cause our sinful lives to be regenerated into the new nature of Jesus. Knowing the truth of Christ through meditating on the inspired, completely trustworthy, authoritative Word of God will build an immovable faith in Christ into our lives.
It is the Word that transforms us. Rom 12:2 "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Paul is speaking to people who have received Christ as Saviour. He is not talking about regeneration, but rather transformation of our old selves into the new nature of Jesus through the indwelling Holy Spirit.
The Word of God is powerful and alive. Heb 4: 12 "For the Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
The Word has a life of its own and its life will shape our life. How? When we put ourselves under its authority and obey it in all aspects of life. The truth, Jesus said, will set us free.
